Location: The port lies approx 35km N of the Lebanese border.
General overview: The port offers a sheltered harbor, protected by two long breakwaters. The main breakwater is 2,650m in length, the northern breakwater is 1,650m. The port covers an area of 3,000,000m2 with the basin area occupying 1,200,000m2.
Traffic figures: Approx 2,000,000t of cargo handled annually.
Load Line zone: Summer.
Max size: Largest vessel handled: "Fortina", 65,000t, draft 14.9m.

NAVIGATION

 Sea buoys, fairways and channels: Syrian regulations require ships to approach Tartous on a course of 090° from a position 12nm W of the harbour entrance, keeping between the parallels of 34°054'N  034°56'N.

 Pilot: Compulsory. The pilot boarding place is about 0.5nm W of the W breakwater.

 Anchorages: Vessels waiting to enter harbour can obtain anchorage 0.3-0.7nm W of the head of the W breakwater, in depths of 14-20m, rocky bottom, good holding ground.

 Tidal range and flow: Range 0.3m.

 Dock density: 1030.

 Weather: Prevailing winds: SW'ly.

 Charts: BA 1036, 2633, 2796. Admiralty Pilot NP49.

 Restrictions: The harbor can be entered at night, but departure after 2200hrs is subject to the pilot's consent.

 Tugs: There are 6 tugs available.
